What is Curling?

Originating from Scotland in 1511, Curling is a winter sport played on ice by over 1,500,000 people in 40 countries all over the world. Players take turns sliding 42lbs granite rocks towards a bullseye-looking target (the "House"). By adding a rotation on release, the rock will curve or "curl" as it slides down the ice. The goal is to get more of your teams stones closer to the center (the "Button") than your opponents.

The Gameplay

A match is played with two teams of four players. Each player throws two rocks (in order), however teams alternate throwing after every shot.

The Ice

Unique because of tiny droplets of water frozen on the surface called pebble. They cause the rock to curl and allow it to slide more easily by reducing the friction.

The Equipment

One great part of the sport is how little equipment you need of your own to get started. A pair of shoes and a broom and you are ready to go!
